Our Story

Back to Our Roots Farm is a small poultry farm located just outside of Boyne Falls, Mi. We began poultry farming in 2015 as a hobby farm but quickly realized that raising poultry is an enjoyable and beneficial enterprise. Today “our hobby” is providing fresh eggs, flavorful poultry and day old chicks to our friends and neighbors.

Why choose Back to our Roots Farm?

Pasture Raised
Our chickens are pasture raised and supplemented with NON-GMO grains. Pasture raised chickens have many benefits over conventionally raised chickens.  For example, according to a 1999 USDA study pasture raised chicken contained 21 percent less fat than conventional chicken, and 30 percent less saturated fat.

Fresh Eggs

Eggs from pastured chicken typically contains three times more vitamin E, two times more omega-3, seven times more beta-carotene and one-third less cholesterol than eggs harvested from conventionally raised chicken. To see the true difference compare our yolks to store bought eggs. Often the store bought egg will have a dull pale yellow appearance a sure sign of kept hens. Our eggs will have a bright orange yolk.

Bio-Diverse Flock
Today’s commercial poultry producers select their breeds based on either growth rate or egg production. Many use the same breeds due to years of selective breeding to enhance the desired traits. As a result, many breeds have been discarded and become endangered or worse extinct. That is why we select birds that are on the national conservatory list. Our birds are heritage breeds that are listed as watch, threatened or critical. We breed purebreds in an effort to help conserve biodiversity.
