Find a Farm

Our Story

It was in November of 2022 my adorable granddaughters came down from Illinois to spend a week with “Missouri Grandma”. During one of our adventures in Mt. Home we visited Orschelns Farm & Home – (now Tractor Supply) to see the baby chicks and baby bunnies, however my oldest granddaughter really fell in love with, and wanted, the baby chicks, like all of them! So “Missouri Grandma” told her that Papa wasn’t going to want chickens in our back yard, however to my complete surprise during a phone call with Papa, she asked in the most innocent and adorable way…. “Papa, can we get chickens?” Papa took a deep breath (big, big pause here) then broke and said “Yes, you can have chickens”. (She squealed with joy!!!)  So… “Missouri Grandma”, turned the car around heading back to Orschelns Farm & Home and we purchased our first baby chicks with an over-ecstatic granddaughter. Then a few days later, they all left back to Illinois and now “Missouri Grandma” had chickens to take care of. Low and behold to me, I absolutely fell in love with them and then… I wanted more, so I went back to Orschelns to get more chicks, and I saw the baby ducklings. OH MY!! They were too cute to leave there – so I purchased three (3) sets, Runners, Khakis and Rouen’s. Yes, I did purchase more chicks as well. As my feathered children grew, they also started laying eggs. Normally, I used to keep a minimum of two (2) dozen in the refrigerator, but I also used to cook more than what I do now. However, my feathered children were providing me with more eggs than I could use. It was around that time another local neighbor stopped selling eggs, so I had a couple start purchasing from me. Then my ducks began laying eggs. I had eggs, lots of eggs!! This is when I created and painted a sign to hang off the mailbox (with permission, of course) and another sign upon entry of drive with my phone number.

It was the start of BarbraLou’s Qwack House, LLC – Quacking it up with the Cluckers!  (Yes, my husband shook his head on that one!) Oh! did I mention I purchased Guinea Fowl as well?
