Our Story
Boarwoods Farm is a women/veteran owned small farm in Arab, Alabama. Our journey began when we purchased 40 acres of wild pasture and woodlands in 2023. We immediately set to work on making space for animals to roam and creating an environment for native plants to return. Our egg story began in early 2024 with 14, day-old chicks. By March 2025, we had a flock of 90 hens roaming our pastures and woodlands. During that time, we also added honeybees and 3 Duroc hogs to our farm. In September 2025, we added 200 more chicks that will join the original flock in spring 2026. The process is slow, but the blessings are many.
On our farm, we have a variety of layers including Barred Rock, Rhode Island Red, Easter Eggers, Buff Orpingtons, and Sapphire Gems. Each hen brings a unique disposition to the pasture and beautiful color to the carton. We enjoy learning about every personality as we interact with the flock daily. Our hens scratch and peck to forage a variety of grasses and insects and are supplemented with a non-GMO, no soy/no corn feed. They enjoy daily dust baths and occasional treats of sunflowers and oats. We are so thankful we have watched our girls grow from day old chicks with zoomies to beautiful laying hens that provide an egg rich in vitamins and nutrients. There is great joy in providing a healthy, clean, quality egg to every table.
In 2026 we will be adding feeder pigs and pork to the line-up. Our hogs are at home in the woods, rooting and wallering the days away. They are supplemented with non-GMO, no soy/no corn feed and allowed to forage on grasses, nuts, wood plants, bugs, and anything else they find. We believe raising hogs naturally not only provides them with the best life possible, but also the best quality pork for your table.
Boarwoods Farm is a dream becoming reality and we want to share it with everyone in our community.
