Healing Thyme Farm

Find a Farm

Our Story

We are a small, first generation family farm. We’re just getting started here in Fort Worth, TX and are excited to bring our neighbors and community local, healthy food. Please support your local farmers and help move our food back to our communities instead of half way around the world.

Healing Thyme Farm’s mission is to heal our minds, bodies, and Earth through education, mental and physical health programs, as well as intentional plans to help heal our planet and local food system.

Education – Shelly (our founder) has a master’s degree in education and has taught in the public school system in Chicago and San Antonio. After years of teaching, she has brought her expertise into the local farming community and now educates through the farm setting. Our education goals are to promote mental health awareness, coping skills, emotional education, healthy eating, eating and living in the seasons, soil health, plant health, animal and plant husbandry, eco systems, insect and life science, water conservation, sustainable food systems, healthy food prep, and storage and canning. These programs are designed for both students and adults. We will be starting our first activities in the spring of 2023.

Mental & Physical Health – Our mental health goals are absolutely fundemental to our mission. They hit very close to home, as many of our family and friends have been impacted by mental health disorders and/or trauma.  Our farm tagline has great meaning to us, “Stay; Let’s play in the dirt.” The semicolon is a nod to project semicolon, which is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope to those who are struggling with mental health, suicide, self-injury, and addiction. “A semicolon is used when an author could’ve chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you and the sentence is your life.” We want you to stay with us, and together, enjoy getting your hands dirty playing in our Earth’s beautiful gardens.

Many have found that the garden and community has helped in their journey with their mental health. Our farm family is working on establishing  programs including group therapy sessions, community gatherings and celebrations, meditation, drum circles, art crafts and music all to take place in a community garden setting. We find that we NEED more connection in our lives and the community garden is our starting place to reestablish the missing pieces in our, so often, detached lives. Our physical health goals include yoga and various other fitness sessions to also take place in a community garden setting.

Healing our Earth – We want to grow local, sustainable, healthy food for all our community (both those who have plenty, and those who have none). We want to heal our soil, plants, and insects through organic practices, explore new ways to conserve water, and find solutions to lower our carbon footprint.

These are big goals and we’re only in the beginning, but we believe we have no other choice than to go big or go home.  It’s Thyme to Heal!

Love,

Your Healing Thyme Farm Family
