The thought to raise chickens had never crossed my mind until my fiance and I were walking through Rural King and heard the adorable cheeps of baby chicks. Well a few trips to the store later… we now have 21 hens, a rooster, a male guinea, and two ducks. We don’t look at our birds as a source of income, we treat them as pets who all have names and unique personalities. Our birds primarily free range, but get layer crumble and cracked corn since there isn’t much for them to eat this time of year. Our girls are all very close in age and have been laying for a few weeks now. We have eggs up to our ears and have decided to start selling.
