Our farm is full of happy chicken hens. We have brown in varying sizes and large white eggs. Our current chicken breeds include black sex link, cinnamon queens, golden comets, buff Orpingtons, Americauna, Easter egged, Amber Star, and white leghorns. We collect our eggs daily. They are unwashed and unrefrigerated. Leaving the eggs unwashed preserves the bloom on the egg-a thin membrane that protects the egg from bacteria.
Our children love to help collect and sell our eggs. It has taught them math, money skills, and how to care and handle animals.
We sell our eggs for $5/dozen and request that you return the carton when purchasing eggs to keep cost as low as possible. New egg cartons can be purchased commercially for $0.50, which quickly adds up for small family farms.
