You know they say backyard chickens are the gateway drug to homesteading!

When we started with backyard hens at our previous suburban home in Georgia, although they were each individual breeds they all laid brown eggs and I was determined to have rainbow eggs when we expanded our flock at our homestead in the mountains of NE Tennessee. So now we have eggs in the following colors: white, cream, brown, dark chocolate, robins egg blue, several shades of green. Once in a while we get a pinkish egg from our Buff Orpington hen named Myrtle.

Our hens include Buff Orpington, French Maran, Easter Eggers, Olive Eggers, Brahmas, California White, Sapphire Gems, Australorp, Rhode Island Red, Barred Rock, and more. Our roosters are a Buff Orpington named Ralph and a beautiful California White named Percy. So our eggs are fertilized – eat them or incubate them and raise your own!

Seeds from our garden are also available seasonally.
