Our Story

We believe that how our food is raised matters. That is why we moved to Jefferson in 2023 and started growing as much of our own food as we can. We would love to share that with you and help you eat high quality foods that are better for your health and the environment. We work to do as much regenerative farming as possible and love learning about how our ecosystem works together. For that reason, we pasture-raise our chickens to better our land and our food. It is crucial to us that our birds get the best life possible and get the nutrition that we want for ourselves as well since ultimately, we are what we eat. We pasture-raise both our meat birds and egg layers. All of our birds spend their days foraging and are supplemented with organic feed only.

Meat Birds: We raise White and Rainbow Rangers. Our meat birds are raised on pasture from the time they have feathers and can maintain body temp. They live in a large mobile chicken “tractor” for safety, but get moved to fresh ground twice daily and are eager to look for all the goodies on the new space. They take in the fresh air, sunshine, insects, and plants all day, everyday. We do butchering and packaging ourselves on site. We are always willing to let anyone see our process and are proud to know exactly how our chickens are handled. We sell whole chickens or we will divide into parts (breast, thighs, wings, legs, and bones for broth) for an additional charge if preferred. We raise out just under a hundred birds each year, but would love to raise more if we have the market! Butchering usually takes place in July/August, but you can reach out any time to see if we have a frozen selection or to get on our list for next year so we can be sure to have birds for you.

Egg Layers: Our ladies are pasture-raised, but also have free reign everywhere. They live in mobile chicken coops that we move across our fields daily, but are let out to free range all day as long as the weather cooperates. They just go into the coops at night for safety and when they need to lay eggs during the day. Otherwise, you will see them out rooting through the garden and fields all day. In the winter, our birds move to an inside coop to avoid the mounds of snow and cold temps that make the mobile coop impossible, but they get out any chance they can. They continue to be fed organic feed all year round. We also have roosters so we can sell eggs for incubating (cannot guarantee the mix of breeds) or chicks throughout the year that we hatch. We also sell our layers every two years or so if you are interested in full-grown, ready to lay girls to add to your flock.

Sourdough: We also have a minor sourdough obsession. We sell sourdough loaves every Saturday at the Jefferson Farmer’s Market, but you can also order loaves any time. Beyond the traditional loaves, we love to make fun flavors, cookies, scones, donuts, and more with our sourdough. We only use organic flour and do not use any seed oils in our products. We’re always trying out new ways to amp up normal baked goods with the benefits of sourdough. If you don’t know much about sourdough, we highly recommend learning more as it can help you better digest breads and be great for your gut health, just to name a few things.

Be sure to check back as we’re always learning and adding more to what we do here. We look forward to hearing from you!
